British Solo Ice Dance
Championships 2009
|
Scotland had a modest contingent of 15 skaters from an
entry of approx 150 at the British Solo Ice Dance Championships in
Sheffield in July.
Despite all the problems they’ve had to endure in finding ice time this
year our skaters gave a very creditable performance winning 4 medals.

Ashley Mitchell (Murrayfield), Junior Bronze (22
entry),
Heather Sneddon (Murrayfield), Intermediate Silver (10 entry)
Gemma Findlay (Murrayfield), Senior Bronze (12 entry)
Kirsten Ferguson (Paisley), Senior Silver (12 entry) |
|
A record six Scottish skaters competed in the Senior category.
In their respective categories, Kirsten won the compulsory dance
section, while Heather took the Free Dance section.
Ashley was also awarded the Heather Green Trophy.
The criteria for this award stated that one competitor would be chosen
from all skaters competing in the Junior, Intermediate or Senior
categories, not necessarily the winner of an event, who, in the opinion
of the Judges had performed the most Innovative Free Dance Programme.
The programme had to be creative and have shown a natural movement with
originality that was unique to their music alone.
Congratulations to all skaters who took part and to their coaches for
training their athletes so well.
