NISA Dance Judge Seminar 2009

Congratulations to Alan McIver who recently had his judging license renewed following his attendance at the dance judge seminar in Sheffield.  This seminar involved 3 days of intensive judge education, involving classroom sessions, judging practice and much much more!

Competitors and spectators present may well have been surprised to see Alan and his fellow judges working with a multi-coloured parachute, footballs and Native American Indians in between classroom sessions, as they studied the contents of the Presentation mark!  We believe Alan made a superb animal in the jungle, ending up being saved from the fire by a fellow judge!!

Judges made use of DVD’s from IJS events and the Sheffield Junior Grand Prix throughout the week to ensure that they were au fait with the standard of skaters within IJS as well as that required for National Tests and Open Competitions and rather worryingly, by the end of the week all judges, led by Garry were heard, in unison, quoting sections from the ISU Regulations concerning Timing issues impacting on both Technical and Presentation/Component marks.

Following the Championship Presentations and Post-Event meetings on Thursday lunchtime the judging panels also joined the seminar delegates to work more on the IJS system and the final day was completed by a practical assessment of IJS knowledge.
Well done to Alan, and also to William Findlay and Noel Grimshaw who also attended
the seminar after officiating in the Solo Dance Championships.

Many of our Murrayfield Club members skated very well at this event (please see results for further details).but we can also be proud of our officials as well.
