Murrayfield Ice Skating Club IJS & RJS Open

The Murrayfield
Ice skating Club open competitions held on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th
Sunday 7th and Monday 8th May 2012, had a number of firsts.
It was the first open competitions the club had run for over a decade,
the first opens it had had run this centaury, the first it had run under
the IJS judging system, with full video replay,
The first IJS Solo dance events run by a club in the UK
and the first Solo Short dance event run. It was also
the first time that most of the Club members had ever been involved in
running such an event
With so many firsts one there was the potential for errors and problems,
however the event ran well, without any problems. This including the use
of untested software being for the solo short dance. The club were
delighted to be able to assist NISA with the testing of the software
which will now be used in the Solo Dance Championships
to be held in Sheffield later next month (Monday
25th to Friday 29th June 2012). The Club was delighted to be
the first club running solo dance competitions under the IJS
system as part of rolling out this out for all open
competitions. The UK is the only country in the World to have a
computerised IJS solo dance system.
The Club are proud that It is one of their members, Mrs Ann Findlay, who
as the NISA technical director, has with the assistance of John
Donnelly, Hilary Selby and Edward Thorp, developed the scale of values
and levels of for the solo short dance. They along with Liz
Littler and Doreen Hoppe were involved in the adaptation of the
IJS system for solo dance since the implementation, in the UK at the
Solo Dance Championships 2 years ago. This year will be the third IJS
solo dance Championship. The Club hopes that its IJS event next May will
be accepted as an event for test passes (providing the requisite level
of judges are present on each panel).
The Club is very grateful and would like to thank everyone for the
messages of support, congratulations and encouragement received from
participants and spectators. |

rink have provided some ice for this purpose on a first come basis. |

first serve basis.

I would like to congratulate Murrayfield Club, your, Committee members,
all volunteers and the rink staff on an extremely successful first
IJS Open competition.
All areas of organisation were first class, from the pre-planning
information to the ice, the timetabling, hotels and very friendly
atmosphere.
It is so enjoyable to officiate at a competition where everything runs
smoothly and everyone works together as a team for the benefit of the
skaters and the Club.
You have proved beyond doubt that as clubs now have the opportunity to
run IJS events this success can be achieved with the back up and support
of all concerned .
Please pass my congratulations to everyone concerned and I am looking
forward to supporting your event in 2013.

The Club are very saddened by the news that
Maureen Scott passed away early this morning in the Western General
Hospital. Maureen had a very long association with the Club and skating
through though her two daughters and in assisting at the junior club and
in judging the exhibition events the club ran. Our thoughts and
condolences go to her daughter and skating coach Karen.
Maureen funeral is on Tuesday 27th November at 2.00pm at Warriston
Crematorium, Edinburgh. |
