Saturday 15th |
Starting on
Saturday 15th May over the summer months the Club has an extra session
every Saturday night from 5.00pm-7.00pm.
The session is mainly to encourage synchro and group team practice with
a view to developing a club Synchro, or dare I suggest it Synchro
teams. There will be coaching as part of the session from Robert Murphy
included in the entry cost. This is £7.00 per session reflecting the
smaller numbers expected and a longer session than the existing club
session.
It is also hoped this time will be an opportunity to groups of club
members to practice group routines for next years show and perhaps get
some assistance from a coach at the session |

27-28th |
The Club had unexpected
visitors to both the Club session and the competitions this weekend. The
British Ice dance champions and our very own Club members John & Sinead
Kerr.
The skaters at the club on Saturday night were given a sneak preview to
some of the moves in their new program.
It was not all sit back and watch the team still had to do some
practice. They were amazed how hard John and Sinead have to practice,
even harder than Robert and Ruth make them work. You can see some more
of the pictures taken this weekend if you click on the picture and as
they agreed to present the trophies at both the Club and Beginner UK
Skate events there are more on the Competitions page. |

Olympic medallists prominent in
new BOA Athletes' Commission |
|
FOURTEEN current and former athletes
have been elected to the British Olympic Association's Athletes'
Commission - a key advisory panel in the build-up to London 2012.
Three-time Olympic medallist Katherine Grainger has been successful in
her election to the BOA's Athletes' Commission
More than 30 had applied for the available positions, with three-time
Olympian rower Sarah Winckless previously named as chair.
The members comprise a mix of ten summer and four winter Olympians, with
12 different Olympic sport disciplines represented.
Nine of the athletes are still active competitors aiming for London 2012
or Sochi 2014, while five have retired within the last two Olympiads.
The make-up of the commission collectively accounts for seven Team GB
Olympic medals in four sports and includes sailing double gold medallist
Sarah Webb, rowing triple silver medallist Katherine Grainger, diving
silver medallist Leon Taylor and modern pentathlon bronze medallist Kate
Allenby.
They will be joined by skeleton slider Adam Pengilly, elected to the
International Olympic Committee during this year's Winter Olympics in
Vancouver, Ben Hawes (hockey), Emily Freeman (athletics), Goldie Sayers
(athletics), Henry Nwume (bobsleigh), Jackie Lockhart (curling),
John Kerr (figure skating), Karen Pickering
(swimming) and Sarah Symington (cycling).
"I am very pleased that the composition of the new BOA Athletes'
Commission reflects such a great wealth and diversity of Olympic
experience," said BOA chief executive Andy Hunt.
"The calibre of athletes who put themselves forward is a tribute to the
determination of British athletes to support their fellow Team GB
Olympians. "The BOA will benefit greatly from the insights and
perspective delivered by the members of the Athletes' Commission."
